Space cities

I haven't been around for long, so please forgive me if this idea has already been discussed.
Seeing how new bases and other solar objects can 'easily' be created, it ocurred to me that one could build a space city. Basically, it would just be a lot of large objects close together, but you would need a huge amount of them for any realism. You could use dockable bases, storage depots, communication satelites, anything. With proper placing you can create 'streets' and 'squares'.
Such a space city would provide a new environment to trade and do combat. Manouvering would be restricted like in dense asteroid fields, but in a more 'dependable' and thus usable way (once you know your way around). It would, I hope, introduce more tactics.
This would be a lot of work, and I'm not sure how much the game would be able to hande, performance-wise. And I won't be making a mod for FL myself, so if anyone wants to try this out, please do.
