Wing Commander Music Mod

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone, especially the people working on creating wing commander fighters for Freelancer, would be interested in replacing some of the in-game music with music from the Wing commander series(wc1-wc4...etc). The music can be found easily on www.wcnews.com, and I also have numerous files that I would be willing to donate to the cause...all mp3. I was thinking it might be neat to cruise around the universe to that music since it sets a different mood.
If anyone's interested feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]

Hey wingc3,

That's a great idea, I've experimented a little with doing this and it works great. Only thing is I need it in wav format, cause that's what the game uses, and it's larger than mp3. Vad's Wing commander music site has a lot of midi's for wing commander. The process is pretty simple. You simply rename the file you want to use to the name of the file your replacing. It can be done with flmm with no problem whatsoever. If everyones interested in doing this, I'll make a mod out of it. It would be great with the wing commander fighters I'm creating.

Hey John! Wow, I didn't expect a reply so fast. I'm really glad that there seems to be interest in doing this! Adding the wing commander music would really change the mood one had while cruising through space. I was really surprised to read that freelancer was using midi for its audio since midi quality is horrible. I then took a browse through my freelancer directory and it appears that the files are actually in the wav format. This would make sense since wave files are of higher quality. I mention this because if the files are indeed wav not midi, then it is a simple process for me to convert my mp3's to WAV files and they could be useable. This would be much higher quality than using midi files. Anyway, I look foward to talking to you about this more and donating whatever I can to help...If you want to e-mail me, I'm [email protected]

okay,

I'm gonna do this, but first I want to see how much interest there is in the project. So if I can have 5 people say they want this done, I'll do it. So post and let me know.

Well, here is one statement of affirmation. I have fond memories of playing all of the games in the Wing Commander series, and I would be interested in downloading a modification based upon the aforementioned games. As Chips suggested in his tutorial, "dbPowerAMP" works very well in converting music files to .wav format. I have used it myself to add some custom music. Might be worth using if you are looking for a program.

Regards,

Oghma.

Some of the mp3s require a bit of editing to sound right. They loop funny.

WingC or JohnHawke, you should incorporate the music into Bob McDob's Priv/WC conversion mod. Take some of the burden off of him. Because I really would like to see that thing finished and right now I am unable to mod myself (for technical reasons) so I can't help.

But I would like to hear the music. The only problem I fear is that the music in a modern game will sound too "synthy" and that would annoy me if done improperly.

I suppose some affluent musician with a helluva program could rewrite the music for a more modern synth, but that's probably asking too much.

As another note. I have extracted a couple hundred sound files from Privateer, I think it's voice chatter, but as I don't have a voc2wav.exe converter anymore so I can't listen to them. The files are labled as such: mus_###.voc.

spectre,

IF I do this, I would see no problem with giving the results to Bob so he could incorporate them into his mod. There just several problems I'm having with the whole thing. (1) The files are too big. (2) The volume isn't right. (3) There just isn't enough music for the whole freelancer universe, unless we use the same music in all four houses.

Also, I hearby give this express written permission to all modders making Wing Commander mods. I give permission to use any ships, or mod's that I make to be incorporated into your mod with out asking me first. However, if you mod is non-Wing Commander related, you must ask FIRST. I don't want my work attached to cheesy, non-realistic mods. I'm not trying to stand at the top of the world looking down, I just spent a lot of time with this work and I wanted treated as such. With that being said, If you want to use my materials, just drop me a line, I answer every e-mail promptly. If you have ideas, e-mail me. If you want to talk WC, e-mail me. If you need help with a mod, e-mail me.

A/w, I still need 2 more people to vote in on this mod.

The thread is 7 months old, which kinda means its, erm - well, dead. As in, they either have made it, or didn't make it. Check downloads - i don't think it was ever finished. However, you could take the "torch" up if you wished.
