Don''t forget to back your files up

Obvious eh? I just cocked up big time........in the dumbest way. I was copy and pasting into another file (i had made some complex 3D Geometric tradelanes that basically looped round in a circle to take you 50km up in the air, or back down again to normal level). I had spent two days getting all this right, system was bloody perfect........looked gorgeous, had 6 bases, in 3D form (staggered tierd system......a first?)with nebula, special fields etc. So i had just populated my bases, and was inserting a vignette for missions when...........i forgot to load my system file again, pasted the vignette to the bottom of the file (which turned out to be Li01.ini) and then saved it as li06.ini......................BOOM. All that work was gone. Last backup of my file? Blank li06 system.......just a jumphole and sun. S*** f*** c***f***** t***. What can i say, i didn't save notes of positions for the tradelanes, so i have to work it all out again. I have to remake everything, which is gonna take the whole day basically, and all cos i just lost concentration for a mo. I got to the point where whatever went wrong in my sys i could fix in a second, so never bothered backing it up! Whatta mistaka to maka!

Chips if I can interject. Perhaps your personality shows through in your posts more than appears at first glimpse.

You have long, unseparated paragraphs signifying a mind dump (a free flowing of ideas if you will). You don't take intermittant occasions to gather your thoughts and look back at what you have written. Agree or disagree?

Well, if this is a problem when doing major modding too, you might need to learn to break up your thoughts and clarify them before going to the next one. I've noticed when I take a rest from writing, to look at what I have written, I immediately save the file because it follows my thought pattern.

Try it yourself with something simple. After every 4 minutes (or whatever timeframe you want) take a sip from a drink. First stop thinking about what you're working at, then think about taking the sip. Once you have done that refresh in your mind what you have done. Then proceed to save, change or go on.

Keep doing this so that you can make it a good habit, where big mistakes like that are less frequent or nil.

Or you can ignore all that and just be yourself. This is just my suggestion based off what limited knowledge I have of you from past posts.

Me too. I have a Phycological problem with editing DLLs now. I edited, it buggered and I sweared. I ended up having to reinstall FL.

True, i have to conciously think of people who moaned about my lack of paragraphs in my posts! Also, i can write posts that.......well....... can take up a page alone......

As for the drinking, it could be over caffeine problems. I counted tea bags, i have had approx 17 cups of tea in the past 12 hours, along with a pint of water......interspersed with alot of toilet breaks! Only really good thing is that i haven't smoked ciggies in 3 weeks now
