The MOD Guide - does it exist?

Forgive my mod-noobism.

I have been playing FL for a while but haven't played ANY of the mods yet. I have a few questions about mods and was wondering if there is a "MOD Guide" somewhere that answers all the basic questions about installing, running and playing mods. I'm not so interested about making mods, just playing them.

Some of the questions I would want answered are:

- What are the different TYPES of mods? IE, are there mods that change the entire universe and others that only change small features (ships, bases, etc)?
- If I run a new mod, what happens to my old FL characters? If I run a different mod, what happens to my previous mod characters?
- If a mod is running on a server, do all players need the mod installed locally to be able to play?
- Can I run multiple mods at the same time?
- Can one character/save game exist over multiple mods?

Etc, etc. As you can see, I'm looking for something like "Everything you wanted to know about installing and playing MODs". Does something like that exist? Where would I look?

Thanks for the help.

Here we go...

1. Ships, Addon, General MOD, Sound
2. FLMM hides them until the mod is deactivated. Otherwise they would probably messup
3. Only the host needs the mod, i think
4. Yes, as long as they don't conflict
5. Yes, in 'my games' there is your FL game. FLMM would hide them. Copy them back to the normal directory.
