new cockpits

Has anyone created a new cockpit successfully? I'm trying to figure out the extra nodes in the li_elite_cockpit.cmp to get started. I think I can fake it for everything except the cockpit020620232716.3db node.

Anyone?
any ideas?
any suggestions?

I think that node refers to the first group in the ms3d model of the cockpit. Just rename it to match.

if that works please post it so we can all have good cockpits.

I'm hoping someone can make a good bridge and populate it. Organic 3d work is not what i'm good at.

well .. I've almost got this figured out .. just one area under the *.3db node called VWireData that has data in it that I can't figure out. the models mesh data is up further in the tree so I know that isn't it . Anyone know how utf editor exports data? cant seem to find any info on that.

hmmm .. after looking at it .. I am assuming that it exports in .tga picture format. well .. I'll try to make a cockpit cmp file without the wire data .. but I doubt it is going to work.

btw .. anyone know why my nn_icons/ca_manticore.3db file isn't working in the game? still gives me a blank box for the manticore fighter in the ship dealer interface.

well .. I couldn't get it to work. when I use my cockpit I get a clear pic of a starfield instead of what should be in front of my ship. I also lose, completely, control. Cant move around, cant fire weapons .. nothing. So there is apparently more to the cockpits that meets the eye. If anyone else is working on this and has any information to add please email me about it .. or post it here.

did you model your cockpit?? i think you need to model it with your 3dmodeler or in MS3d. I tried to import the cockpit in MS3d and it is successful. now the hard part is figuring out what those cameras info's are? if you can figure it out please post it.

EDIT: Yes .. I did model the cockpit .. and exported it as a cmp. made changes to the cmp as compared to the bretonia elite cockpit and also as the liberty elite cockpit. I also imported the materials for the cockpit.

The camera info is the camera position and oriention within the cockpit (where you are sitting and which way you are looking) that's all .. in otherwords the camera is your head when you sit in the seat.

The part I couldn't figure out is /cmpnd/cons/fix and /cockpitXXXXX.3db/VMeshWire/VWireData

If I knew what these were and what data to use for them I would be good.

I think it may be necessary to create a new id for the cockpit too. I may be wrong on that but the last 6 numbers of the cockpitXXXXXXX.3db node look suspiciously like id numbers.

did you copy the data of /cmpnd/cons/fix and use it in your own copy. Maybe this node will tell FL where your hardpoints are located. as for that 3db thing, it maybe just like the ones in the ship model cmp.

I tried copying the cons/fix thing from another file. It didn't do anything for me.

the the vmeshref part of the 3db section is like the fighters. That was easy to do. but the vwiredata part of the 3db section is no like anything in the fighters. I have no idea what data is stored in there. I would think it has something to do with the wireframe of the model by the name. but I can't imagine why since all the vertex information is stored in the primary vmeshdata node.
