An interesting idea or not??

Well - this idea was left with me from Prototype01, and since i haven't heard from him in a bloody long time - i thought that i would chuck it out to everyone - see if it might of actually been possible or not!
People are starting to make servers (frostworks NU) where you take part in one clan.....and he came up with the idea of pilotable capital ships for each of the faction......not new i know - however - i aint heard nothing about this part!
He was wondering if it was possible to then make it so that whilst 1 player flies the capital ship, the others could dock with it to be transported to another system (supposing the capital ship flies faster than the fighters....)
Would this be possible - in effect - a flying station???
What do people think?!

thats exactly wat i was thinking,
except u have ur own ship that u can undock in ur other ship to land on planets etc.

i dont think its possible cause u cant have 2 ships.

but maybe u can make a base out of a ship so others can dock
but im not sure

I think he's talking about mp. Maybe it would work. Instad of basing it on a moving base (implementing player control would be too hard), it would have to be a ship. Heres a simple method: make little pockets all over the big ship, you fly your little ship in, and the big ship basically drags you along.

LOL - love the idea - but shields would wear down, then the hull - unless something was done about collision damage - also the fact that you would 'bounce out' of the pockets. How about creating mooring points or something? Could that work at all?? (i have no clue - haven't done much exploring in this area yet!)

I'm pretty sure there'd have to be some heavy duty modding to have a moor on a player ship. Here's another idea,
You know how when you join in formation with someone you will automatically catch up to them no matter how fast they're going? Make the battleship's rear portion be hollow, and define the center of battleship to be in the front portion. Then you fly into the hollow 'bay' and hit formation, you will stay in bay, sheltered from outside fire, even as the battleship moves and turns. I know this is getting really strange, but I'm not great at modding and this is the only way to sidestep it that I can think of..

Imagines idea is the only one so far that hasn't been tried yet. Mobile bases caused client crashes and having 2 ships in one as far as i know requires game engine modification which means an official SDK is needed.

Now that is one of the smartest ideas i have heard in a while imagine!! I like it - and it should be possible quite easily - now if only there was a way to make it so that they wouldn't be cruise disrupted in formation as well....but then again - the battleship could vap foes as well..............hmm
