relationship betweeen serverside/clientside modding

If you release a serverside mod, say a new ship, will the clients see it even if they do not have those files? I know it doesn't work with a clientside ship.
Also, what about changes to the serverside inis? Do the effects show for the clients? Changes to clientside inis is prob regarded as cheating, but I know it works.

Actually this is a interesting topic for anybody making mods.

Clearly some things are only used on the server but i dont think graphical items are one of them. Stuff like system inis and market files are more than likely to be server side where as huge 600k ship files are not.

I dont know for certain what files are or are not server side only but there are plenty of people in here that do. I hope somebody answers this thread with a good list of server side only files.

I assume that you will not see the ship unless your files are modded - as you don't have the ini's, sur's, cmp's, mat files and everything else associated with it- well you won't be able to buy/fly the thing at the very least..... - so unless the clients are modded - i don't see how they can..........but then again.....custom ships on an unpatched server? You can fly them - but how the hell can others see em and its data??? That is the bit i can't work out.....

p.s - i too would love to see a list......
