skybike ultralight fighter/scout

working on a new fighter, got the basics built, just need to refine the design a bit and better textures. for those who prise speed and manoverability over firepower and...um... armor.. lol.

Nice idea and hot stuff. But is that...one gun?!

Post Mon Aug 11, 2003 8:53 am

Yeah its only one gun. Do you see a spaceman there they might you know explode. You're in outerspace. Why not a create a bubble cockpit to make it realistic.

Working hard to earn... but too lazy to do something...

Post Mon Aug 11, 2003 8:55 am

yes indeedy do. i've been testing it playwise all afternoon, and it's not as bad as you might think. but the fact that you arent the big ship can take some getting used to.

Post Mon Aug 11, 2003 8:59 am

firstly, the "spaceman" is wearing a proper EVA suit. i just havent fully textured it yet. second of all, i could have done a "bubble cockpit" but then, it would have been the same as everything else. background wise, this is a craft designed for use in stuff like hull repair, rescue, etc. that was converted for combat.

in my opinion, it's a nice change to have a vehicle that isnt yet another rip off of an f-16.

One must admire the originality... I question the usefulness in practical terms... but as a "just for the heck of it" kinda thing i think it's excelent.

Dont think I dont do stuff "just for the heck of it"... in game I had enough money to buy 2 titans and still outfit both of them with top notch equipment and weaponry... still I went to the unknown system to kill nomads with a drake (and to be honest I find it easier to fight heavy duty baddies with the drake than I do now with the eagle... with the drake they would seldom hit me).

But enough of topic chatter. The general concept and execution is cool and I like it even though It's not what I would use.

And I agree new design is needed. And I'm also a fan of the light and nimble. My R9 will be a bit like that as well. So in my opinion it's thumbs up on that as well.

Oh one other thing... If a mod presented itself in which a player wouldn't die but had an escape pod of some sort and could return home, your space bike could fit wonderfully there.

Cheers.

Actually that skybike would fit great in an actual role playing environment. Especially if , as bloodriot said, you could arrange for a person that gets his ship blown out from under him to be ejected in pod.

I have been working on a couple of ship models that have no weapons. But I don't know if they'd be feasible in freelancer since it can't seem to handle more than a dozen players at a time nicely and the people that usually play it want to go blow up stuff instead of idly roaming the lanes in their yacht or solar sailer.

I refuse your invitiation to join your hallucination.

Speaking of escape pod, why not just make a guy in an eva suit with a weap hp in his hand and mad maneuverability?

Post Mon Aug 11, 2003 11:42 pm

that *was* one of my ideas i'm working on.

Scalewise its not that small. Try halving the size.

Post Tue Aug 12, 2003 2:35 am

it's actualy considerably smaller, i've adjusted the camera ranges. the only thing keeping it from truely being properly scaled game mechanics wise, is lack of a way to give it an appropriate .sur file.

Post Wed Aug 13, 2003 1:39 am

I looked at the engine flames and thought that since its fighter sized, the bike has a pair of fighter engines which does make the scale too large.

Post Wed Aug 13, 2003 1:43 am

i was useing the tie fighter engines, at full stop.
