Ship/ship docking?

Is it possible to change/fake game into thinking that a ship is a base on the fly while the game is running? If so, then it would be possible to implement ship-ship docking by tricking a game into thinking that your ship is a base when you issue a docking request to another ship, until undocking, at which point you change the "base" back into your ship? If that is not possible directly, would it be possible to on the fly, place you into a temporary base at that location for the duration of the dock? That way it will give the player the impression taht docking is in progress, while in the game, you will be "teleported" out of your ship into a temporary base at that location which will then do the docking? Or intead of doing all this to your ship, could it be done to ai's ships? If this is possible, it could open up a whole new realm in the game

Maybe with ship to ship docking you could hijack other people's ships. That would be cool. :0

Something else that'd be interesting... if someone was piloting a large battleship, perhaps you could program the ship's hull to open and you can hook your fighters and what not to the inside, maybe at the expense of cargo or something (Two classes of battleships, like B-Ship-C(argo) and B-Ship-D(ocking)). Then when you fly along, your ships stay with you, and only need to launch when you're engaged, and that would have a hella-cool effect!
