I dont know exactly how do it (other than making veryshort range super thick beams!) but it would be amazing!!!!!

Shouldn't be too hard, but I doubt the usefullness of such a weapon. It's easy to modify the range and refire rate, sure it can be done but I wonder can it hurt anybody since it's "melee" weapon, and I don't know anybody using melee combat in space.
