Check out my mod titled "Engine Weapon Mod" it increases your engines speed and also messes with the guns in the game, it should be close to the top of the list, theres a full list of what the mod does, its a very small file and all you have to do is unzip the files and copy and paste them into the FL DATA folder, it should be C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\DATA unless you changed the folder during your installation

Three good mod options come with FLMM 1.1
I really love cruising at 1200. 3000 is ok, but plays havoc with asteroids.

To change cruise speed
Go to constants.ini and under [EngineEquipConsts add the line CRUISING_SPEED = xxx.
To change engine speed, find the name of the engine the ship is using and change the engine_equip.ini

eg
[Engine
nickname = ge_gf1_engine_01 (starflier engine)
ids_name = 263671
ids_info = 264671
volume = 0.000000
mass = 10
max_force = 48000
linear_drag = 599

Your speed = max force divided by linear drag.
Change linear drag to 480 for a speed of 100, but beware handling changes.

You can also add, under [PhySysConsts, the line

ANOM_LIMITS_MAX_VELOCITY = 2000 (or whatever number you like)

to be able to break through the 990 speed limit.

Great info! I You can also chage the line

reverse_fraction = 0.200000

into:

reverse_fraction = -10 .

You'll sacrifice the ability to fly backwards, but you'll go about 800 when holding the "x".

You can ofcourse mod all these settings into absurdity, which will give you a short extatic rush and then will spoil the game, so be careful to keep it reasonably

Question: Does anyone know how fast trade lane speed is, and/or where it's set up?

I'd like my cruiser to be about 80-90 % of trade lane speed (otherwise these would be useless), and the "x"-booster 80-90 % of my cruising speed, so I have to know what's the trade lane speed, and, if possible, edit it.

And if you're not quick enough pressing F3 when approaching a docking ring you can go smack into the planet - done that a few times !
