Mod Questions I haven''t found answers to

I have some newbie modding questions about changing Freelancer. I have read some of the other posts and many of the tutorials. These are questions of how the game itself is affected by mods.

Q1. Since multiplayer is mentioned most often in association with modding, I have to ask; do mods with added ships and/or systems show up in single player play? During the course of story missions as well?

Q2. If one wants to play in a multiplayer game, must all players have the same mods installed equally between them?

Q3. If one adds new ships (ie. the Star Wars vessels I have seen available for download on LancersReactor), do they replace previous ships in the game or is it simply one additional choice in the universe? Again, is it available during single player play?

I appreciate any help and think you have a great forum. I hope to make good use of your tutorials and shared techniques.

Thanks

To elaborate a little....

Q1. Since multiplayer is mentioned most often in association with modding, I have to ask; do mods with added ships and/or systems show up in single player play? During the course of story missions as well?

A1. The MP and SP games share the same sets of .ini files (with a few exceptions) so any changes to them including added ships and systems will show up in both places. The new ships will show up wherever the mods placed them but will not be used in any of the missions unless changes to the SP missions were intended. The player can use the new ships for the SP missions.

Q2. If one wants to play in a multiplayer game, must all players have the same mods installed equally between them?

A2. Most mods need to be the same on both the server and client side or one will try to access information from a file that doesn't exist and crash the server and/or client. That being said, there are some mods that can be made that are client side or server side only. Etiquette says, don't run modded on a server without permission from the admin.

Q3. If one adds new ships (ie. the Star Wars vessels I have seen available for download on LancersReactor), do they replace previous ships in the game or is it simply one additional choice in the universe? Again, is it available during single player play?

A3. When the modder creates the mod, they can either replace one of the exisiting ships (easiest but less desirable) or just add new ships (the most common for downloaded mods). Again, these new ships, however created, are available to the player throughout SP.

Thank you for the information. I really appreciate it. When I look for user mods I will surely look to find the mods destinctly creating new ships and not replace them. I am also pleased to hear I can use a MP groups mod while not necessarily needing to join the group.

Thanks again,
