So there I was at a diner on Pittsburgh...

The general place to discuss MOD''ing Freelancer!

So there I was at a diner on Pittsburgh...

listening to this guy blabbing about nothing the whole time I am trying to eat.
Next thing I know his chest busts open and a little green critter crawls out. I didn't hang around to see what happens next. I did see the arrival of the Colonial Marines though.

Ok so it's my latest ship. Not quite finished yet.

Then turned it into reality! Woohoo!

Wow... Just ... Wow.

Didja put a couple of missile hardpoints inside of the missile pods? ^_^

I tried to make the missile pods as seperate weapons with multi-missile loadout with no success. But I did make a fast getaway from that diner in this...

Heheh, battle of the planets. I found that and lots of other meshes but could not import them into milkshape. They were made in lightshape (or something. I remember being able to import them) but when I imported them, I could never see them.

I am awesomer than you.

I started out converting ships to get used to how FL handles things. I found alot of ships out there too, but alot have poly counts in excess of 50k. This one was a lightwave originally, but had somewhere around 20k polys so I just remade it. Now when I find/think of a cool ship I just start making a low poly model.

Hey, awsome ships!

I have just started making some ships of me own. However they are invisible ONLY when docking, on or in a planet or base. Or when I am flying out of the plenet.

Any ideas on how to fix this. I have gone through tutorial at http://forum.duwx.com/viewthread.php?tid=44

it does not seem to mention this problem at all.

Any ideas?

What are your LOD ranges set to in your Shiparch.ini? If you are using a custom model, try setting your LOD to 0, 999999, 999999, 999999.

My lod ranged are currently:

[Simple
nickname = or_elite_dmg_star_wing_cap
DA_archetype = ships\ra_elite.cmp
material_library = ships\borg\ra_elite.map
mass = 5.000000
LODranges = 0, 999999, 999999, 999999

[Simple
nickname = or_elite_dmg_port_wing_cap
DA_archetype = ships\ra_elite.cmp
material_library = ships\borg\ra_elite.map
mass = 5.000000
LODranges = 0, 999999, 999999, 999999

I have tried:
0,999999
0,999999,999999
0,999999,999999,999999

and almost any other combo of 9s and 0s.

Anything else you can think of?

It looks like a Mip Map problem, to be honest. Though without seeing what your texture files look like, I can't be sure.

Hi Kurgan and others

I found if you watch for the range a ship normally disappears at then set the lob ranges to that, everything works fine.

If you want you can e-mail me the files (model, texture, cmp and mat) I'll take a look and see what I can find.

Hello.

The problem sometimes occures when the cockpit and turret views are wrong too. Sometimes a wrong angle in the shiparch.ini or a bad viewing angle in the ships cockpit file can cause those problems.

If you set it too

0,999999

Then sort out the cockpit view and shiparch ini view before finally checking at watch distance the ship turns into a square and only the engines are visable and noting that down. You should get your ships lob range.

To do that you need to add your ship to an AI so they can fly it. See ships/loads, missions/ncpships.ini and then add it to missions/faction_prop.ini in the desired faction.

Loadouts requires your shiparch.ini & goods.ini and should explain why some ships dont have all the data required for players to fly them but are still listed.

Think I found it. Your HpMount was inside the ship. It needs to be below the ship. Placing and hardpoints inside the ship is generally a bad idea. Placing them passing through a surface is not a good idea either. Other than that you just needed to align the hardpoints on the surface of the ship. I fixed it and tried in the game after making the HPMount outside the hull and it was ok.
