Tractoring in Large Amounts

I changed the cargo space in my ship to hold 1000 units but if I blow up a cargo vessel I am only able to tractor in 70 units even though the tractor beams appear to be in operation. They actually stay on whilst I remain in the vicinity of the loot and only stop once I leave the area. My question is: How can I tractor in more than the original cargo bay size?

Its a loophole in the game until someone figures out how to mod it, you can only buy 1000 units of cargo at this point...

This happens on unmodded servers. So basically, it happens when you try to cheat.

I'm not entirely sure for the reasons behind this (others are), but I think it has to do with the server recognizing the ships as having a certain cargo hold size, while your client recognizes a larger size. The client sends out the tractor beams, but the server determines if you have enough cargo room to make the loot disappear. If it sees that you do not, you will not pick up the cargo, but your client will continue to try anyway, making you look electrified in space.

The reason you can buy/sell at the increased cargo limit is because all base/planet transactions are purely client side. The server simply doesn't care what you actually have in your cargo hold, or how much of it. It is only conserned with where things are in space, and what they are doing. It has a "If I can't see it, it doesn't exist" mentality, and since it can't see your cargo it doesn't know any better.

This might be a single-player only thing at this point. I modded one of my freighters and I set the cargo room to 5000 and was able to buy 5000 units of anything (as long as the volume of the stuff was set to 1). I believe it might just be that you're cargo bay is either full, or that the engine doesn't support tractoring in more than 70 per 'shot'. Try hitting the tractor button a few times and see if more stuff comes in.

It will work if the server is running the same modification as you.
