Need help with skinning Ship

I am having trouble skinning my ship model in Milkshape 3D. I can apply a texture to my model but it does not display correctly - no detail is shown just a mat colour. If I change the material to a SphereMap the model becomes mirror shiny and some texture detail is 'reflected' onto some the parts of the ship, depending on the viewing angle.

I assume there is something wrong with my model but I don't know how to find out what it is.

Can someone help, or point me in the right direction. I can send the 3ds file if requested.

The directions in the help file for Milkshape are pretty lousy, aren't they? I know i have a link somewhere.... hrmm... ah!

Thanks, I'll have a look through whats on the site.

I'm sure my problem is related to the faces of my model...just have to work out what.

The tutorials have shown what I was doing wrong with the texture mapping. I'll have this ship in a new set of clothes before too long.
