Is it possible...

...to enable turrets to autofire at enemies (through modding, since there doesn't seem to be anything like this in the current game)? I don't know whether this would be something that's hard coded or not, but I think its terribly impractical to have turrets that can only be used manually--that basically defeats the point of having turrets in the first place. Turret mode is very debilitating, since you can't manuever at all whilst trying to track targets, and meanwhile you're a sitting duck as enemies fire at you. X-Wing Alliance performed well in this area: craft (that you could fly) with turrets could switch between manual fire for turrets, link fire with the main guns (much the way it currently is in Freelancer), OR autotrack mode, where the AI would control your turrets while you were free to continue flying, unobstructed, and not as a prisoner to a cumbersome turret mode if you wanted to, say, fire at enemies behind you.

It was with great disappointment when I bought a Rhino freighter and discovered in an ambush that my turrets were all manual fire =
If it's not hardcoded, it would be nice to see this as a mod.

this is a great idea and you're right it's hard coded but it's not inpossible
it will take a modification in the extra.dll to every enemy in a certain radius is marked as a target then u have to make another dll wich desides wich turret shoots at wich ememy and you have to input every turret hardpoint for every turret using ship wich is ALLOT of work and it will GAINT 20 mb or so
but anyone who's up for the challenge. will get our full cooperation and our help

Couldn't you just use the code made for turrets on space-stations ? .. I often see them turn around, shoot and other stuff when docking (and having nothing else to do than picking my nose..)

Well as long as it's not impossible there's always some hope of something like this being done--would really make freighters more viable, both in defense and offense, I think.

Shoot, I'd just be happy if I could move that useless turret from the back of my Hammerhead to the unused hardpoint that sits right above the cockpit.
Has anyone those little things that look like extra hardpoints on your ship but when you're fully loaded out, they're empty? Is there a way to make them usable?
