3D Plugins?

Hey,

I'm having a problem with MilkShape not allowing me to import large poly ships. Can't even import a Star Trek runabout without it complaining. I've tried multiple formats from Lightwave to 3DS and even Autocad with it either complaining and not importing, or totally crashing. I have so many models that would look totally sweet in the Freelancer universe, but am too restricted in MilkShape's importer (although it's a great program)

Does anyone know if there is another 3D program that will import 3DS and LWO files with the capability of saving them in the Freelancer format? Either that or a plugin for 3DS MAX that would do it? Even a straight 3DS-to-CMP converter program would be great....

You know, for a $3000 program ($1000 educational), an awful lot of people seem to have 3DS Max. Not gonna make any comments on that, just thought I'd point it out.

Actually I'm one of the people who got it legally. I got a big discount because I purchased it through my Computer Aided Graphic Deisgn classes at College. Paid around $500 for it, atleast my loan did, I'm still paying that off. I also got Lightwave for around $600. I know not everyone has MAX legally, hell you can get it off Kazaa in under 30 minutes I hear. But let's not assume that everyone pirates it ok. It's kind of offensive when you assume someone is a thief before knowing the truth.

where do i find the freelancer import export for milkshape

Look under the FILE menu, there will be an IMPORT and EXPORT there. For MAX your looking at the 3DS import, for Lightwave the LWO import.

iirc milshape supports just up to 8000 polys

which is enough for most games, but really low if you model in some of the standart 3d apps ... btw second hand max versions are aswell an option to buy, and than there is gmax for the modding community ^_°
