Ever wondered why mines are so useless?

I created an unguided rocket system with a pretty big blast radius (200m) that is designed to wreck havoc on those pesky Cosair formations that come charging at me. The rocket is set to detonate when it gets within 150m of an enemy ship and generally works really really well. I did a similar mod to the mines but I've discovered a really big problem... if I attempt to use my killer rocket or the "new and improved" mines in a debris field they would explode as soon as they leave the launcher, doing more damage to myself than anybody else! The proximity detonation logic in the game is flawed.

Check the player safe time. If its too low, you won't be able to clear the blast radius before it goes off.

Thanks for the tip, I'll look into that. But my point is, they won't work properly in a debris field because the debris will trigger them. In the age of jump gates and trade lanes shouldn't you expect something smarter than that?

Yesterday I pulled a very nice stunt...

I had some guys, four or so, coming at me in an asteroid field... so I found a large one and hid behind it... I waited until they had fired their first volley and then entered into combat with them... saved me a whole lot of shield...

In my testing, the player safe time is how long the player has before the mine will track on their own ship. If the blast radius is too high, player safe time will not help.

The mines are tracking onto the debris and as such, I am not sure of a way to disable that "feature". It would also be nice to have mines that use the playersafe time such as not to track on any players that you are grouped with.

beeing abel to track junk isnt a bug, ist just some thing that comes whit the mines "targeting system", mines arnt smart and they dont have to be because the are made for frieghters, wich drops mines and the pessuisers will have to stop firering the freighter to avoid getting hit. Its just a device made to keep the scumbags of your tail, not a dogfight assistant.

Who said mines aren't smart? This is 800 years after the 23rd century we are talking about here in case you didn't notice!!!

Some smarter land mines of today can identify a tank from an APC, and even different versions of the same vehicle!

But they'll still blow you up regardless of friend or foe.

im sure its possibel to make a mine that can take out your foes perfectly, it will cost you 2k for each mine though, 2k for a 1 time usabel dives? I would rather have a wing men for that price.

It's the same thing for any type of explosion. Set them too big, and you will screw your friends and yourself too.
