player owned stations...again

what, if any, info do we have regarding player owned stations? there are little bits of info here and there throughout the posts on them, but they have gotten swallowed up by off topic posts. So could anyone who has any interest in player owned stations, or is working on them post something here?

That's actually supposed to be a feature coming in the expansion pack... which basically means it is already built into the game, but they just didn't have time to get to that part yet

Seriously though.. there are missions where you can blow up stations so they are obviously not just static entities. However if you wanted to dock with one and trade commodities in a multiplayer setting, the way the files currently exist, you'd have problems. I doubt there is a way to link the docking/commodity trading functions of let's say West Point, to a dynamically created "mission style type" base.... you might be able to on your computer... but not on anyone elses. And it would probably crash the server or at least your game.

One idea would be to have people download new versions of your mod daily. The mod author could throw stations into his map in exchange for large quantities of credits. Of course, they'd only be "player owned" in the sense that the player could request a name, location, and station model to use. I'm not sure how interested people would be in this.

maybe you could have the station remain static, accept that if you captured it by say...killing all it's turrets and the 12 waves of fighters it would launch, then it would change allegience so that it was 100% friendly to you and had the same political views as you. also it would constantly stay that way no matter what (if you left the system and came back) and it would give you a fiew credits every once in a while(as tribute). it could even atack factions who were unfriendly to you and if you were good enough at coding you could make an interface for it so you could tell it who to atack. but really all you would be changing would be it's allegiance so it might work in a multiplayer server. then you could have wars where you and your friends are trying to capture all of eachother's stations.

how cool would it be if you could make it tax all trade items and give the cash to you. if you set it too high, your friends wouldn't trade there, and if you set it too low, you'd lose credits. you could have player controlled empires with dynamic economies fuled by real people. i know that's being really optomistic, but i just wanted to get you guys excited
