player owned stations

has any progress been made in this area?

Post Sat Mar 29, 2003 12:13 am

Working on it. I am going to try and include this in my mod. They will not be easy to get.

What exactly would this involve? Any ideas?

hmm factions own stations...
if a player ownsa station does he become the 'leader' of a faction... are we gonna go MMO ?
that would rock

would be nice to have a clan capital ship, which enables people to dock, for clan battles. sorry i say clan, but so many words now a days..

wonder if it is possible to add docking to a battleship, it is allready in the game.

I don't think so. From what I've seen you have either a ship or a station. Ships are the ones that move and be killed but the stations are immobile and invincible. Can't find a way to have both.

I would like to suggest a workabout -

Isn't a Battleship almost a functional station (save for repairing and auto-regenerating of goods). It could have a huge cargo space and the player owning the ship can just trade with others (instead of through an interface). Beside, a ship with that big cargo space is useful for storage depot.

Just my 2 credits worth.

Sorry for my bad english.
The problem to makes this available is to solve docking problems, since i think there's no problem to use the model of a station or a battleship as a ship for a player.
So the real problem is to dock with ships controlled by players, because you have to solve MP issues when people controlling capitol ships and stations and there're people docked to them and that main player exit the game, crash or dock with a planet.
SOLUTIONS? I don't know but out in the space isn't hard to do --> you can send other players docked with you out in the space.
But when main player is docked with any planet/base the problem is make a transition between menu rooms of the main player ship and the menu rooms of that planet/base.
Anyway, I think the best way to do this is make battleships dockables as a first step, and after that, thinking in make stations player controllable as another ship.

i kinda own my own station,in the system i made i called the station kenny's home.lol.

Actually I'll let the cat out of the bag, battlships can be stations also

I am making player owned battleships that can let people dock in them as a base. It's not easy. Having problems with the program distinquishing betwen a ship and a base and the ship docking with the battleship while it is moving.

Cool someone is finally trying to make it to where we can have our own bases. Good luck wish I could do more but I'm no modder.

Sweet. When you finish with making the player owned Battleships and Stations can I borrow the code for my mod?

I've made a prototype of a mobile base/battleship but is currently being tested by those who have mp. The results will be posted once i get word. By the way, does anyone know where the key configs are stored. I've got cloaking/decloaking all figured out but i need to find a key to set the command so that it'll work.

Post Sun Mar 30, 2003 2:51 am

ok so can we get some ideas how u ppl are doing the player owned stations?? do you purchase them at a dealer? put em together like giant legos? just trying to get a handle on this

Post Sun Mar 30, 2003 3:36 am

Whoa, did you say de cloaking? I don't remember at the moment how to bind keys, but there's an ini file that does it somewhere.
