Understanding shield_link

Not to sound really pathetic, but it would seem need some help understanding and using the shield_link variable. Of course, the default format is:

shield_link = bw_vheavy_shield01, HpMount, HpShield01

Just an example I pulled up. I would like to know exactly what each field specifies, especially the last two (HpMount and HpShield01). The first, as it appears, indicates the type of shield, the other two...I know they are both hardpoints, but are they really both required? I ask because I have added a Nomad fighter to the game and I want to mount a shield on it. It has no .cmp file, so the only way I can find out the hardpoints is by looking in loadouts.ini. When I tried mounting shields it did not work, I never got a shield mount.

Now, it was my assumption that Nomad fighters didn't have a HpShield01 hardpoint because in the game they lack shields, so I did not use that. Instead I used HpCloak01, which I found in the loadouts.ini. Basically I did this:

shield_link = bw_vheavy_shield01, HpMount, HpCloak01

I know HpCloak01 works as a hardpoint because I managed to use it as a weapon mount. When I tried this I still didn't have a shield mount (I did remove HpCloak01 from the hp_type for the weapons). This failed, so I tried changing HpMount to HpThruster01 (which did previously work as a thruster mount) but it did not work.

Can anyone clearify how to use this exactly? And is bw_vheavy_shield01 what's causing the problem? I just took it off the Sabre. Someone please enlighten me.

One last thing, is there any other way to find the hardpoints for a ship (without a .cmp file) besides looking in loadouts.ini?

The syntax for shield_link is as follows (correct me if I'm wrong):

<type of shield>, <mounted to>, <hardpoint>

You're trying to equip your Nomad vessel with a shield that only fits on a very heavy fighter hardpoint... obviously a no-go. I'm not sure, but I think Nomad fighters don't even support a HpShield01 mount... you'd have to add it manually.

I managed to pull it off, now I have a Nomad Fighter with class 10 shields. Thanks for your help.

Could you please outline how you managed to equip the class 10 shields on the Nomad fighter? Please I ved tried adding all kinds of shileds to it but none work.

in the cmp file u have to make a shield hardpoint and in shiparch ini make a line like this HPshield01_shield01
or somthing like this also you can copy the lines from another vessel like the titan that should work

if I edit the cmp file to make a hardpoint does that mean that the MP server will crash if I join with that ship?

When you add hardpoints does that mean that all the other players need that cmp file too?

is there a way to add any shields without having to edit that file?

I know this sound stupid but sorry
