How to get the Best Path routine to use jumpHOLES?

I'm guessing the answer is locked somewhere within shortest_legal_path.ini/shortest_illegal_path.ini/systems_shortest_path.ini, but I'm having difficulty finding the right key. Anyone manage to crack this yet?

no haven't found out how to do that, apparently the "autopilot" has a preference for jumpgates instead of jumpholes....

Heheheheh. Our ships must be running Ageira's proprietary software with their Microsoft monopoly tactics.

There is however one time when it doesn't only do jumpgates.

I was exploring and was deep into one of the Omicron or Omega systems when I salvaged some gear off a wreck and hit the next mission point cash level.

The best path routine not only plotted jumps through jump holes, it plotted them through jump holes I didn't know about yet. (Well ok, that "Trent" didn't know about yet since that was my second run through I think.)

Somehow it must be possible to force it to consider the holes as valid routes when you manually add a route.

If not, the DA should definitely add that to any forthcoming patch, and stop the "you have a mission- this is the best path back" routine from plotting with data you don't have.

On another note, everyone in the game addresses you as "Alpha 1-1", so this is what, broadcast in your IFF transponder or something?
Kind of makes you wonder why the bounty hunters attack you until you change ships in Bretonia, if your transponder is still bleating out the same ID for the whole galaxy to see, regardless of your current ship type.

The autopilot seems to prefer to use jump gates IF there exists both a route to your destination that uses gates and one that uses holes. In other words:

Holes only route = Use holes
Gates only route = Use gates
Gates and Holes routes = Use gates

I suspect that this was done to reduce the processing load that would have been needed if the program had needed to compare the multiple routes in order to determine which one was the shortest.

I always thought it was a simply matter of adding the illegal routes to the legal routes and cutting out any paths that where longer. You see i believe the legal route ini is read first and then the illegal routes ini. So if the legal route table is added to the legal route table and the jumpholes are indeed a shorter router and thus replace the legal entries, then the jumpholes would get used.

You would have to replace any jumpgate entries that where actually longer routes though.

Thats something ive thought about lot, i believe its right though.
