Engine Kill

I`m trying to use a tactic which involves engine kill. The trouble is, my engine can`t be killed. I`ve dedicated another key to it, but it still won`t die.
It`s always ticking over?
Anyone come across this?

Are you running the basic game, or using a mod?

yo this is interesting...

i tried this a long time ago, but i can't remember it now... i guess engine kill means stop the ship??? if not, i really can't remember what this do... the default command for it is the z key, right?
