8 sleeper ships??

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

wouldn't the French and Italian navys have made sleeper ships as well. in the starlancer intro you hear of the French and Italian fleets being destroyed. not that it matters, they were not included in the final version of the game.

they probably removed that video because it does not correspond with the story. if you really think about it the only place they found artifacts was the Sirius sector. the nomads were left behind to protect the Sirius sector. they would have no reason to go to sol and destroy the sun

there are no such sleeper ships because those 2 fleets got destroyed

btw. there are 2 different FL intros... in one you can see 5 sleeperships and in the other you can see 6 sleeperships

That's odd, in both intro movies I counted only 5 sleeper ships in each intro.
The "rumor" on Malta about 8 sleeper ships is just that really...a rumor.

Take for instance I started a drunken rumor that your Great, Great, Grandmother wore combat boots and that your family actually came from Mars. (please don't take that as a flame)
The thing is, the rumor is totally baseless...although some people might assume it's a historical fact.
It's the same with the 8 Sleeper Ship Rumor. It's just a cardamine induced, baseless rumor. The Outcasts call their "Graveyard" a haunting for "ghosts" when we already found out that those "ghosts" are actually nomads.

The French and Italian Fleets were not completely destroyed at the signing of the Balma Treaty.

In the Game Manual Captain Robert Foster of the ANS Reliant,
states that the remnants of the French and Italian Fleets will rendezvous
with their American, British, German, Spanish and Japanese Allies in orbit around
Neptune's Moon Triton to regroup, establish a new command structure and asses the best strategy.

Also in-game you get to fly or read about the following Alliance Squadrons:

205 France -Marauders
503 Italy -Stingers
559 Italy -Hornets

It is also mentioned that Hornets operate from the ANS Roma.

Notice that even though you don't get to see or fly with Spanish
Squadrons, Foster clearly states Spain is part of the Alliance, so
there could be room for other nations to be part of the Western Alliance.

This reinforces the possibility of having at least one Sleeper Ship for
France and other for Italy, which makes perfect sense with Freelancer's rumor about 8 rather than 4 Sleeper Ships trying to reach Sirius. (At the beginning of Freelancer the other 4 Houses are not aware that Outcasts & Corsairs are the children of the Hispania).

So this leaves us with the following Sleeper Ships:

1) Liberty - US - Arrived
2) Bretonia - UK - Arrived
3) Rheinland - Germany - Arrived
4) Hispania - Spain -Thought to be missing - (See note below)
5) Kusari - Japan - Arrived
6) Name? - France - Destoyed
7) Name? - Italy - Destroyed
8) Name? - ? - Destroyed

The Hispania barely made it to Sirius, due to sabotage....
There was another rumor where it was stated that it wasn't the Coalition,
but rather an agent from Kusari (Japan) who sabotaged the Hispania in order to give the Kusari Sleeper Ship and its population a better chance of finding a habitable and resource rich sector in Sirius to colonize. Ironically this event would mark the beginning of the competition within the Houses of Sirius and effectively terminate the Old Western Alliance.

The 8th sleeper ship still remains a mistery, since no evidence has been found to link it to any specific nation or ethnic group, if we speculate, it could have carried a mixture of citizens from all Western Alliance Nations even if they didn't have a significant military force.

What we do know is that it certainly didn't belong to any of the Eastern Coalition Nations given the fact they ended up victorious over the Western Alliance:

Eastern Republic - Soviet Union + (Warsaw Pact: Hungary, Poland, Romania, etc)
East Asian - China & Korea
Tigris Confederation - Arab + ?

Your thoughts?

you shouldnt forget that even if they tried to meet the alliance many were attacked by the coalition

and even if some squadrons survived you cant really say that this are "fleets"

there is no proof of which nations build sleeperships... but judging from the intro its very likely that if there were 8 sleeperships then some didnt even launch (maybe they were not completed - but that are just speculations)

Actually, we could clear that up simply by making it happen to become (sci-fi)historical fact. Say you travel back to the Sol System:
You find Historical Archives somewhere on some planet that reveals plans and documetation in which other ships were built. But also discloses the location of where these ships were built and intended to be launched from.
Next consider the possibility of the design differences and that these ship could have been intended to be built and launched from a space station.
You go exploring after finding the archives and eventually come across one of them; still in orbit, devoid of an "active" population and completely automated.
You discover thousands of cryostasis chambers with the inhabitants still in hibernation. Suddenly the mystery deepens...

You fill in the rest.

problem: 2 different FL intros
in one of them Sol was blown up... in the other it wasnt

Did you know That you can fly through the holes in the hispania.

Post Tue Jul 31, 2007 3:38 pm

Yeah, that was a nice little feature I discovered when I eventually found the Hispania (presumed, since the scan indicated the chance it was)
My only dissappointment was seeing the lack of detail the cryo chambers had compared to the intro movie.
