Limit the crossfire spamming

Please look through the recent last 2 to 3 weeks and look at all the crossfire announcements.

Why are you (LR) promoting this server so much to the expense of other submissions that ..not surprisingly, dont make the headline news of that day because the crossfire news is always the headline one.

Lots of servers are struggling for players out there and in the last 2-3 weeks all we see is the regular crossfire spam over and over.

Please restore order and impartiality and stop plugging this server and give the smaller servers a chance with an equal amount of enthusiasm to post news as there is with crossfire.

I very much doubt that any other server would be given this much exposure in a short time, but then those are the benefits of being a moderator at lancers eh?

That's not fair suggesting that the Crossfire community is getting more attention than any other members of this community.

I post what is submitted, always have and have been criticized for it, it's not my fault that members of the Crossfire community have been submitting news lately and others haven't been.

I guess you didn't notice that Bulldogg submitted 2 news articles for Asgard and they are both on the front page...

If you or anyone else would like to see some news or other information about anything you're more than welcome to Submit News or Submit a File

I would think its being pushed, as it is asking for the advertising. So this said, you have one you sponsor, send an anouncment to BP and it will get put up on the news. Sent it once a week, if you like and we will plug it as well.

Post Tue Apr 10, 2007 5:12 am

No offense but I think LR should filter News Submissions by quality and spam.

One advertising news for a server per month should be enough.
Bad written news (like, "come visit our server, name is: some cryptic servername" should get filtered, as should simple question/answer requests that can be answered on the forums.

Just a suggestion.

Post Tue Apr 10, 2007 6:01 am

I like the way it is being handled now and would not like to see a filter on the news or limit it. All that would do is kill our TLR community. I like watching those clips and I read TLR everyday just because I like to see what is going on and when news is being reported that tells me Freelancer is still alive and kicking.

Post Tue Apr 10, 2007 6:05 am

Simple question - answer requests?
When those are posted it's because it's a suggestion. Such as some nice person could make a tutorial.
Guess you didn't take it like it was posted, either that or the post was not understood.

Lately there hasn't been much news so if it gets filtered there wouldn't be much, if any.

I think something has to be done to generate some interest around here.
We've gone from more than 10,000 visitors a day down to less than 4,000.
I see 20 to 30 people online and there use to be 500 sometimes.
Numbers like that don't exactly make me want to spend my free time when I have a lot of other things I have to do let alone want to do...

Don't try to read anything into what I say. I have spent countless hours here and have made some great friends and enjoy the community very much.
So I'm asking for suggestions and ideas people might have and not complaints and ridicule.

>I think something has to be done to generate some interest around here.

Maybe you or anyone else coud introduce a multiplayer-FL-news section where things like this weeks server events on different FLServers are posted, and so on. This would however require some serious researching and thus would be time intensive.

administrator - not moderator ^^
at least im doing something for this site so you can visit it and post your news and comments here

Lots of servers are struggling for players out there and in the last 2-3 weeks all we see is the regular crossfire spam over and over.

people play on servers because of the server itself, the mod or the community ... not because of news items
Crossfire itself was downloaded about 50.000 times here at LR because of one single news post months ago and the quality of what we provide there... not because of spam

Please restore order and impartiality and stop plugging this server and give the smaller servers a chance with an equal amount of enthusiasm to post news as there is with crossfire.

the order was that there was no news about Crossfire for about 4-5 months until i was asked by someone here at LR if some news wouldnt be a bad idea
so bp posted a gallery, a movie followed and then a few news submitted by Crossfire clans
not a single news item came from me and i ask myself if we would have the same discussion if it would have been a different mod than Crossfire there on the news (and i think i have any right to ask this after the subordination that i would abuse my rights here at LR)

ive an genious idea... i should rewrite the news in a way that Crossfire news are always on the top of the page... would be cool... dont you think so? O_o

maybe next thing is that people tell us not to post news about DSO, Spaceforce or Evochron because it could disturb their FL news.... geez

No offense but I think LR should filter News Submissions by quality and spam.

and who will be the guy with the powers to decide about bad and good? who will decide if something is spam... or has less quality than the rest? Sorry but this is discriminating.

One advertising news for a server per month should be enough.

and what if a server releases a mod and there is a bug? do they need to wait 1 month before they are allowed to release a patch?
what is if a server wants to run an event but cant submit news because they submitted news about a new mod version not long ago?
you cant limit such things

Bad written news (like, "come visit our server, name is: some cryptic servername" should get filtered, as should simple question/answer requests that can be answered on the forums.

again - who decides about bad and good?
news are news in my eyes
if servers want to promote themselfs or clans then let them do it
a restriction is not needed nor wished

I think something has to be done to generate some interest around here.

we are doing already and the good times for sure will return

Maybe you or anyone else coud introduce a multiplayer-FL-news section where things like this weeks server events on different FLServers are posted, and so on. This would however require some serious researching and thus would be time intensive.

people come to LR to see the news... not to search for them and i consider it as a discriminating restriction to say "your news are not good enough for the mainpage"
it has something to do with freedom and neutrality
not to mention that LR is living because of the news

So if i understand correctly, there isnt enough news so the people who post about their server, regardless of the frequency will be posted...(in essence/within reason)

This indeed is a bad sign, I doubt people would want to hear about Hamburg, Deutscher, The Void or any other of the top five servers in such quantity, let alone those with a far lower MP player base.

I think W0dk4 has a valid point, and either the news dries up or their needs to be more proactive attempts to obtain news. Whilst I understand the issues over time etc. clearly the news is drying up and will continue to dry up, leaving only reposts or little of interest for those of us who visit daily. This will only continue the spiral downwards in variety and quantity of news, let alone quality.

I believe a new approach to obtaining news be used, maybe have people visiting freelancer server forums and suggesting news be submitted to Lancers, maybe there would be volunteers here who would be interested in doing a Q&A with some of the mod makers, Admins, well known people and put a little background on a weekly/monthly server/mod maker type of thing

I have already suggested that we have a mod top 100 list to vote for, and I have already suggested that we have the global top servers on the site via cryosphere and tidying up the mp server list.

Sure, there are always reasons why you should'nt do things and why you dont want to do things when people suggest things, however, if the interest wanes, the posts reduce and once there are less new items to read people stop visiting as frequently.

The challenge is to be more proactive in obtaining newsworthy items.

did somebody say this? i dont think so

you cant limit what people want to submit to LR except it is against the rules
you want to interview the most famous server admins and people in FL?... and what is with the others? will they ever get a chance?

to limit something is counter-productive... this whole discussion is ridiculous.... i mean does it hurt someone that people submitted news? NO

if you want to do the poll that you suggested then fine do it - but be aware that the result will show absolutly nothing except the modding community which did vote for their mod daily

you want to put the top10 servers on the LR page? why? so that more ppl visit these servers and the small servers die out?

with one thing you are absolutly right... for everything there is a reason... and we have good reasons to do the things the way we do them now

Why are you picking on Crossfire Strail?
We havent been on news for months, and when we do its not spam .We have many clans on CF each and every one could post here its a free world!
Same goes for all the other mods/servers ,send news ,if you dont what can you expect ?
I suggest you take a look at all other server ads over the last 4 months and count them up.Then you can make a post with all the figures and we can discuss that ?

For those who complain about the way a news item is written, you need to work with those who send us the news item. I personally have had to take one or 2 line news items and jazz them up to make them more interesting. We also have to go spell correct and sometime grammer checking before we post them.

Again, if you have something to post, please offer it rather than complaining that we run news around to help keep intrest up. hmmm?

Post Tue Apr 10, 2007 12:18 pm

I mean no offense to you Strail for what I am about to say here.
But you might want to consider the reasons your server might be losing its
population. I really doubt it has anything to do with TLR.
I've written to you before regarding certain problems and they went unanswered or ignored by you. This time, I think it is coming back at you and just now starting to bite you in your posterior.

I'm not going to say anything about the Crossfire thing, but I do agree on a matter of principal with the limiting of the amount of publicity servers get on the front page. I think that just general plugs and advertisements for any given server should be kept down to one a week or two weeks.

I'm not including new mod versions or anything like that, just general plugs that are essentially saying, "come play on this server!"

I think that just makes sense, in the sake of fairness and also for the site viewers who don't want to see the same plug for some server every day in the news.

Post Tue Apr 10, 2007 2:50 pm

I will also point out a fact that is quite obvious. The Crossfire community, regardless of their clan differences truly works their butts off, advertising here, Sci-fi community forums, making recruitment videos and taking serious pride in our server.

Many of the people here talk about what servers do, "my server this, my server that" but what I don't see from almost all Servers is this " Our COMMUNITY works together to promote our server" . This is something Crossfire community does very well.

Every Server Clan contributes something of extreme value to the promotion of Crossfire in game and publicly on forums, all the while not violating other forums rights or recruiting from other servers.

Op also values our opinion with many posts worded like this : " Okay guys, give me your opinions about this page" , " I need to build a new database, so I need info cards, planet info, ship info" , " I need a list of bugged ships" and so on. And I bet atleast a dozen and more jump right in and do the work he needs done, hands down and no arguements.

We need a new launcher coded....NP we got it Op.

I need info cards on X system planets.....Np we got it Op.

I need grids for this items.........Np we got it Op.

I need screenies for the new gallery.....NP its done Op.

Take a good look at what I posted and recognize that the CF players work harder than any I have seen to ensure we survive and get bigger and more importantly, better.

So instead of complaining why not ask for help and ideas on how to make your server popular.......team work is a great thing.
