Any users of last.fm?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Any users of last.fm?

www.last.fm is an internet radio aswell as a site that tracks what music you listen to in your favorite media player and displays it on your profile, then you can meet people with similar tastes and get recommendations.

I thought it would be interesting to see what the other people of this forum's tastes are

My profile

no I don't use it, bit too public for my tastes. But that personality test was bang-on!

arbitron tried to sign me up for their new 'people tracker' device just three days ago... you're not affiliated are ya?

seriously though i hate opinion polling - you wanna know what I think just ask, i won't hesitate to unload

basically i listen to talk radio w/ fringe audiences and occasionally NPR, just to spy out what the 'enemy' is doing (actually i consider liberals and conservatives victims equally - people have some really stupid beliefs about the parties here that are just untrue), all the comedy stations just check them out to see who's playing.

P.S. lookin for washington-state based standup comedy i like i found James Inman who is pretty damn funny IMO, and probably shares a lot of my views on the whole straussian nwo reptilian mindf%4#ing that the whole hemisphere's being subjected to by way of our 5 corposmedia companies. definitely worth a look if you're familiar with the seattle area as you probably know someone just like me, or him

you used the appropriate term "Straussian" - he's got a lot to answer for, old Leo has. Nicely done.

Post Sun Nov 11, 2007 8:46 am

i'm trying hard not to take offense at how surprised you sounded there, that a 'yank' as they say there (not a very good term for a west-coaster whose ancestors were french canadian and bahamian, not colonials) could show a smidgen of political acumen

(3rd greyhound diary vid has a hilarious conspiracy theory parody)

oh it's just that apart from me and Ed, you're the only other person who's ever used it on TLR afaik; I'm not surprised tho, but pleased

hmm ok i get the same answer from alot of people, that they dont like the whole social side of it. It does kinda suck when some guy comes and tells u how crap your music taste is but you get assholes everywhere you go. What does "Straussian" mean lol? :O

Can't say I've ever devoted a lot of time to philosophcal drivel, but the way I understood Straussianism was that it, in filtered form, follows a concept to pull the wool over societies eyes in order to lead them. In other words a society that would be a conspiracy theorists wet dream. Obviously it goes a lot deeper than that and I'm sure Taw will pipe in that I'm an uninformed idiot (he'd probably be right too) and then proceed to inform you, at great length, of the deeper meaning of Leo Strauss' teachings.

or

those are good primers on the contextual use here - i would not call philosophy drivel, but most of it is intellectual masturbation (aka semantics) - sometimes philosophy focuses so exhaustively on epistemology (how do i know?) most people just throw up their hands in disgust at it, as do i. however classical philosophy (plato, aristotle, ptolemy) and enlightenment philosophy (locke, paine, voltaire & other 'natural' law proponents) are pretty plain and not difficult to grasp, and they form the underlying basis for the currents of thought in our modern society so why not know something about it, not to show off but just to know?

"He who votes decides nothing; he who counts the votes decides everything"
- Stalin
“Without a revolutionary theory there cannot be a revolutionary movement.”
- Lenin
“The best way to destroy the capitalist system is to debauch the currency”
- Lenin

Strauss to me doesn't just represent the articulation of a millennia old ruling philosophy that has never been extinguished completely (that might makes right, lies are noble, and that the people ought be treated as cattle) it represents the worst aspects of the human spirit, particularly those feelings of inadequacy and seeking control over ones chaotic and frightening world that create the narcissistic straussian intellectual sociopaths in the AEI, PNAC, and Heritage foundation (people who espouse a 'prolife' position for the sake of fundamentalist appeasement, but who do not hesitate to defund childrens healthcare, or push for a draft, warmonger, etc). Strauss was a proponent of Nietzsche and Machiavelli - if you've read either of those two's works you'll understand that this is the mark of a very sick deranged mind that has no place behind the wheel of the republic

Interesting.

So by Straussian you mean pretty much any 1st world government today?

Post Sun Nov 11, 2007 10:09 pm

Well there have certainly been those that say the Bush administration is being driven by Straussian-like concepts. Which to be perfectly honest, it does appear to the layman (ie me) to be that way.

EDIT: Much better description CV.

-vamp- its a little more complicated than that, since most politicians are not so brazen as to admit they embrace this nutbar philosophy, and Strauss really just gave it a new name - the so called noble-lie dates back to greek philosophy, the idea of real-politik to machiavelli's 15th century, or sun tzu, or who knows maybe to xenu and some reptilian ancestors?

to get a good idea of how Strauss's dystopia might look/come about i would suggest the books 1984, Farenheit 451, Animal Farm, A War of Shadows (Jack Chalker), or It Can't Happen Here all excellent books i have read cover to cover with the exception of 1984 which is getting rather dated, but is worth mention nonetheless

Post Sun Nov 11, 2007 11:02 pm

Ah ok thanks for that, yeah theres alot of conspiracies going around about the Bush Administration such as all the WTC theories and the one how he is going to turn America into a police state..

I do apologise, vamp, it's my fault that your thread digressed into what is admittedly a very interesting and educational discussion of contemporary political philosophy
We'll stick to the point from now on.

as a long-time Luddite, I find things like last.fm far too intrusive for my liking. All social networking disturbs me, and apart from a sad MySpace profile that I used for propaganda purposes, I've never indulged. My musical tastes are so idiosyncratic that to advertise them would be, to a great extent, pointless, and more trouble than it would be worth.

nice idea though if you like that sort of thing, I'm sure that it goes down well with children and young people.
