Well, for one thing, what happened to SCO-Unix.

They also sued Linux, iirc.

who says that Linux is free?

it's the kernel that's open source and free to distribute or tinker with - but you can copyright what you build out of it, and that's why Red Hat and Suse are both rather expensive these days.

the difference being that with Linux you have a choice and you can build a reliable and secure o/s out of it, whereas you can't with Windows - you're stuck with what you buy. Do any Windows development and you're working for Microsoft, do any Linux development and you're just working for yourself.
