Vista Released

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Vista Released

And Microsoft's new Operating System is now available to the public. It was truly a spectacle to watch peopleon the morning news, queuing for dozens of metres to buy the overhyped OS and its accompanying office suite.

In all honesty, it was rather dissapointing to see so many of these people succumbing to the hype of first release, despite the many reported glitches with the OS (Not to mention resource inefficiency).

Anyway, enough of my babbling, anyone else have anything to share on Microsoft's latest hype magnet?

I was first in line for 98, 2000 and for XP, Midnight madness sales

I will be picking up Vista tommorow myself and look forward to it on the new laptop. The others will stay with XP for now.

I plan on holding off buying it for a LONG time.

Yes, truly an exciting event. Happy Vista Day to all, etc. Well enough of this, I must be going. *Engage lurking mode... Lurking mode engaged*. I'll be watching people. Remember that! *Narrows eyes, glares at all and sundry, and returns to TLR's deepest shadows*

Bah, 3D desktop sounds cool, but the 2D one I have right now works fine. And what are the requirements for Vista? Like a 3 gig processor, 1gig of ram and a 256 MB graphics card? Please tell me I'm wrong there, because if I'm not then that's all my comp's power going just to run the OS, not to mention with the strain on my comp just to run the OS it'll definatly pull the preformance of my games down to hell.

I'm gonna hold off on Vista for a couple more years. I'm going to wait until they have some of the major problems fixed and improve the stability. I'm going to wait until what happened with XP happens with Vista, where after a couple of years it became pretty stable and somewhat reliable.

Don't want the trippy 3D desktop? Buy the Basic Edition. Basically, it's XP but with DirectX 10. It's also cheaper. Win-win. (I assume you're referring to the Aero interface)

I don't see what everyone is so upset about. It's a new operating system. How many of you that are bashing it have used it? Surely it's worth reserving judgement instead of simply saying "Oh noez, M$ made it so is teh sux"?

It sure can't be worse than XP. Given the amount of flak Microsoft took on security you can be sure they'll be beefing it up.

Finally, can any of you name any release of any OS that has been completely bugless? Fools are ingenious so you can bet that MS haven't considered all eventualities and software/hardware configurations. If you're going to criticise them, do it on important things like shutting down Halogen and making Dx10 Vista-exclusive, not on petty things like releasing software with bugs.

MS makes the same promises with every OS, and only three of their OS's have actually come close - those are NT/95, 98 and XP of course. do you expect us to disregard our total sum of experience with MS products and be open minded with hard earned money?

why even upgrade for directx10 when linux will be supporting its capabilities in an open source form, sooner or later - not forgetting that there aren't any games taking much advantage of it yet, and that games will continue to support directx9 and XP, and that linux is growing in popularity as a gaming OS

so by all means, downgrade your systems performance to get some features of dubious value - i'm quite happy with XP for now, and i think most other windows users feel likewise

**shuffles of with a new headache**

Because I don't have the energy to fiddle around with Linux? Something I don't understand nor can even guarantee compatibility with my games (even less than Vista).

Besides, I'm upgrading now anyway because my PC is starting to fall apart (literally) so I might as well go the whole hog and save a bit of time and cash later on.

Well, this message coming to you, on my new laptop, with Vista Upgrade installed. So far, I am impressed. I kept the majority of my programs, though I have yet to test them beyond Juno. Yes!!!

Edit- This edit done with firefox, no problems with using it, and I never noticed it having a spell checker.
